Brand Systems & Content Strategy — Australia & New Zealand

Hype DC is a 60+ store footwear retailer operating across Australia and New Zealand under the Accent Group. The challenge was a familiar one for brands at that scale: how do you maintain a boutique soul inside a corporate framework? How do you speak to a discerning, digital-native audience that can smell inauthenticity from a distance?

Moiré Archive was engaged to lead the visual overhaul of Hype DC's social media and e-commerce presence — and to reposition the sneaker not as a product, but as a primary tool for navigating the modern city.

The Strategy

The existing visual language was high-gloss retail photography. We moved it toward something rawer — architectural, community-focused, built on the textures of the city the audience actually lived in. Concrete, steel, light. The shoe in its natural urban habitat rather than a studio backdrop.

Three pillars defined the approach.

Sydney Creatives Series — We pioneered a recurring series photographing emerging Sydney artists and musicians in Hype DC product. The brand became synonymous with the local creative community rather than a generic retail chain. Real people, specific to a place and moment.

Minimalist Scenography — A signature visual style built around the interaction between footwear details and urban architecture. The environment as a collaborator, not a background.

Authentic Casting — Away from traditional model agencies, toward real people whose personal style was already aligned with the Hype DC identity. The difference is

      The Operations

Beyond the creative vision, Moiré Archive managed the daily operations of the e-commerce studio — maintaining elevated brand guidelines at the output speed required by a 60+ store empire with global launch calendars. Monthly briefings with Nike, Adidas, and New Balance ensured creative assets aligned with commercial objectives without compromising the brand's visual intelligence.

      The Impact

100% increase in social media followers. A visual language that set a new standard for sneaker photography in the Australian market — high-fashion editorial sensibility at street level. The systems established during this engagement created a lasting foundation for how Hype DC communicates with a subcultural audience.
