Flow Forward

Year of the Horse

Flow Forward is a three-panel mural drawn from the graphic language of traditional Chinese medicine: apothecary labels, auspicious symbols, bold colour used with conviction. The work was made for the 2026 Year of the Horse and carries three stanzas at its centre.

Patience builds strength. Strength guides action. Action shapes spirit.

A horse moves across each panel as a metaphor for Qi in motion, connecting the Fire Horse as ancestor to the present as continuation. The design borrows the typographic framing of historical remedy packaging and runs something entirely contemporary through it. Heritage not as archive, but as living practice.

This creative concept was shortlisted by Georges River Council.

Design and Context

The work speaks to an Asian-Australian experience of holding two cultures without having to choose between them. Angela's approach was to use the visual language her community already trusts, and shift it just enough that both older and younger generations feel seen in it.
